SUMMARY:Challenging Allergy – Drug Hypersensitivity Symposium 2023
DESCRIPTION:This hybrid event features leaders in drug allergy across multiple disciplines (dermatology\, allergy\, immunology\, infectious diseases and perioperative medicine). The program focuses on antimicrobial allergy\, perioperative allergy\, vaccine allergy and Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions (SCAR) relevant to a range of specialist physicians and pharmacists.  The small conference format will allow for interaction with leading experts in the field\, networking and practical case discussion/skills sessions. SUMMARY:In Memorium – Richard Warrington
DESCRIPTION:May 4\, 1943 – December 23\, 2022\nDr. Richard J. Warrington MB\, BS\, PhD\, FRCPC(C)  FAAAAI\nProfessor Emeritus\, University of Manitoba\n\n\nAfter a rich and full life dedicated to public service and research\, Dr. Richard J. Warrington died unexpectedly on December 23rd\, 2022\, in Winnipeg\, MB\, at the age of 79 yrs.  The many people whom he touched in his life will remember his intelligence\, humility\, mentorship\, kindness\, humour\, and empathy.  Predeceased by his parents\, Jack and Ella Warrington of Rushden\, England\, he is survived by his wife of 19 years\, Olivia (nee Sigfusson); his children\, James\, Stuart (Yumi)\, and David; stepsons Murray\, and Thor (Janna); and his grandson Liam and step-granddaughter Britta.   Richard was a loving father and grandfather and a dedicated and loving husband. \nDr. Warrington was professor of internal medicine\, headed the section of allergy and clinical immunology for 39 years. He conducted groundbreaking research\, published more than 220 articles and abstracts in refereed journals\, and had a stellar record of teaching and service. \nWarrington was a research grant reviewer for 14 national councils and research foundations and a member of 18 national and international committees and boards. \nHe served as examiner\, chief examiner and vice-chair in clinical immunology and allergy for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. His UM roles included directing the rheumatic disease unit research laboratory. \nFurther to his experience and leadership roles\, Dr. Warrington was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Allergy\, Asthma & Clinical Immunology Journal in 2004 and remained in that position until his death.  He became President of the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (CSACI) in 2008 and subsequently was elected the first Honorary Member. He received numerous honours for his distinguished record of achievement and professional service\, including the Jerry Dolovich Award for contributions in allergy and clinical immunology in Canada. \nA memorial service will be held Saturday\, June 24th in Winnipeg\, Manitoba for Dr. Warrington in light of his recent passing December 23rd\, 2022.  The service will take place at the All Saints Anglican Church\, 521 Broadway\, Winnipeg\, MB\, with reception to follow.  Time is to be determined at a later date.

He currently works at the Bc Women and Children’s Hospital\, Vancouver General Hospital and St Paul’s Hospital and is actively involved in various penicillin de-labelling programs at each of these hospitals. His area of interest in adverse drug reactions. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Dr. Vanessa Paquette\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Dr. Vanessa Paquette is the clinical pharmacy specialist in obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine at BC Women’s Hospital. She is the pharmacy lead for the BC Women’s Hospital Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and works in the BC Women’s Hospital Penicillin Allergy Clinic. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Moderated by Dr. Ghislaine Isabwe\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Dr. Ghislaine Isabwe\, MD. FRCPC\, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at McGill University’s Health Center\, directing the Advanced Drug Allergy fellowship within the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. With an academic background spanning Harvard Medical School\, McGill University\, Université Bordeaux-II\, and the University of Rwanda\, her research primarily focuses on drug allergies\, especially in chemotherapies\, biologicals\, and vaccines. Her work aims to uncover factors\, tools\, and methods for safe re-exposure\, and assess their impact on patients’ quality of life.

She is President of the Allergy Section of the Canadian Pediatric Society\, Chair of the Food Allergy/Anaphylaxis Section of the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and member of the Joint Task Force on Practice Parameters. She is a Senior Medical Advisor at Public Health Agency of Canada. She has a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins with a focus on health systems and policy. She has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored over 15 allergy practice guidelines through the CPS and CSACI.

She is committed to improving the quality of life for infants\, children and adolescents with allergic and immunologic disorders. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Moderated by Dr. Jennifer Protudjer\, PhD​\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Dr. Jennifer Protudjer PhD is the Endowed Research Chair in Allergy\, Asthma and the Environment; and\, an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health\, University of Manitoba; a research scientist at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba; an epidemiologist with the Clinical Trials Platform at the George and Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation; Section Head\, Allied Health\, of the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology; and\, sits on the steering committee for Canada’s National Food Allergy Action Plan. She also holds an adjunct professorship in the Department of Foods and Human Nutritional Sciences\, University of Manitoba\, and is an affiliated researcher at the Karolinska Institutet\, where she completed her post-doctoral training. Her primary research interests include environmental risk factors for\, and societal consequences of allergic disease\, using both quantitative and qualitative methods.

He supports the clinical and research mission of the severe asthma clinic\, particularly regarding adult-onset\, and severe asthma. He also treats patients with other allergic/eosinophilic pulmonary diseases\, like non-asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis\, and asthma-COPD overlap syndrome. His primary clinical interest is sleep medicine\, including sleep-disordered breathing\, insomnia and narcolepsy. He assists patients with neuromuscular diseases (e.g.\, Duchenne muscular dystrophy) who require long-term breathing support. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Moderated by Dr. Ling Ling\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Dr Ling Ling received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alberta. She completed Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Alberta and Clinical Immunology and Allergy Residency at McMaster University. She is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta with practice at both the academic institution and private practice.

She’s been a part of the MoveSafe team for 13 years\, performing both Field and Office Ergonomic assessments and providing education. Her background in Disability Management helps her understand the consequences of sustained unhealthy posture and movement habits. She is focused on applying her knowledge to help prevent injury. \nTana enjoys the preventative aspect of her work that allows her to combine her Kinesiology education and coaching skillset. She educates her clients on their workstation set-up as well as teaches them the proper posture and movement habits necessary for working in the millennial office environment. \n					\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n					\n					\n						Dr. Jessie Mahoney\n						\nDr. Jessie Mahoney is a pediatrician\, a certified life coach\, and a yoga and mindfulness instructor. As a practicing pediatrician at Kaiser Permanente for over 18 years\, Dr. Mahoney has been a leader in the physician wellness movement her entire career.  She is a frequent public speaker and workshop facilitator.  She is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF\, Chair of the SF Marin Medical Society Task Force on Physician Wellness\, and former Chair of the California Medical Association Subcommittee on Physician Wellness. \n\n\n\n\nDr. Mahoney believes that mindfulness and coaching are a key component to changing the culture of healthcare\, improving health patients and caregivers\, and to improving our healthcare system.  Her passion is utilizing coaching and mindfulness to help her colleagues be the best healers and humans they can be.   \n\n\n\n					\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n					\n					\n						Dr. Jane Healey\n						Dr. Jane Healey is a hospital-based paediatrician at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga. Together with her husband\, Dr. Paul Healey\, they created the Physician Financial Independence (PFI) online community in 2017\, which now has over 35\,000 members. It is a space where physicians can teach each other about personal finance and happiness that does not accept any advertising and is free from industry bias. \nJane is a strong advocate for promoting financial literacy and reducing burnout in medicine and values being a neutral\, non-biased source of information for Canadian physicians. \n  \n					\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				 \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n					\n					\n						Leanne Whiting\n						Leanne Whiting is an author\, elementary school teacher\, yoga instructor\, teacher trainer and founder of Grow A Lotus Yoga. She is renowned for her creative and playful teachings of yoga through story. Leanne skillfully teaches with subtle alignment in the body\, inquiry and discovery of the mind\, and a playful enthusiasm of the heart. \nShe teaches children’s yoga in schools throughout Halifax\, NS\, along with professional development programs for educators and professionals. \nLeanne is the author of children’s yoga book\, Be Like A Tree\, and a Master of Education student at St. Francis Xavier University. \n					\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n					\n					\n						\n						\n					\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n					\n					\n						Dr. Stephanie Zhou\n						Dr. Stephanie Zhou is an Addictions & Family Physician\, and Department Lead of EDI & Social Accountability at Sunnybrook Hospital. Stephanie developed the Financial Literacy Curriculum at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and serves on the Financial Aid committee. Outside of her clinical roles\, she is on the Board of Directors for Toronto Public Health\, Habitat for Humanity GTA\, and Chair of the Practicing Well program at the Ontario College of Family Physicians.\nShe is a nationally invited speaker on economic mobility\, diversity mentorship\, and founded the Canadian Physicians Financial Wellness Conference. In 2022\, she was selected as Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by WXN.
